Why Resell Your Product?

I’ve been asked a few times by email and contact on the site, why any author should sell rights to their product and give up control of how that product is marketed, sold, exchanged. There are actually a number of really great reasons to do so. I’ll be posting the reasons this week, starting today…
“Why should I sell rights to my product? Why not just take on affiliates?”
If you’re an author and you’re wondering why you’d give up some of the control of your product by selling resale rights (as opposed to taking on an army of affiliates), there are a few considerations and determinations to make. Neither way of marketing your product is right nor wrong, one can be just as lucrative as another, it’s all a matter of how you roll it out and what types of stipulations and prices you put on your resale rights.
Overall, resellers of an ebook or other product are usually more motivated than affiliates are. This means more of your product gets out to more of the world. That’s great news if you have great content with affiliate links embedded in.
Wondering just why resellers work harder to get your product onto more computers and in more people’s hands? That’s because a reseller has to invest money in acquiring a product with resale rights. His money is at stake, his profits are directly related to his efforts, therefore he or she has a higher level of motivation than the average affiliate. And, if you offer your resellers a way to embed a few of their own affiliate links, they become even more motivated to make sales.
On the other hand, there is investment made in becoming an affiliate and there are a multitude of products to sell for a commission. Affiliates can put in a half-hearted attempt to sell your product and then move onto another product. Succeeding (or dropping the program altogether) would not make any difference to an affiliate, there’s always another offer around the corner.
All in all, resellers do help to market your eBook aggressively. As long as you give them serious incentives to do so, leveraging your business or a part of your business, by offering resell rights can be a true win-win situation for everyone!
Motivating Your Resellers
We’ll cover this in depth in future posts, but at this stage it’s important to think about the reasons a reseller would want to buy rights to, and sell your product.
The main reason online marketers or new website entrepreneurs choose to operate as resellers is because they want to sell or offer for sale, more products faster and easier than if they created them on their own.
Buying resale rights means most of the work is pretty much done already - they’ve just bought the product - which may or may not come with graphics and web pages - all that’s left to do for a resaler is copy the pages to their server, change the order button so every sale goes into their pocket and drive traffic to the website.
If a marketer already has a busy site or a decent sized mailing list, they could be making money in less than 20 minutes of buying your rights!
Motivation enough?
I’d say!
